Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film ‘Shaakuntalam’, has opened up about her struggle to get designer clothes in the industry. In a recent interview, Samantha revealed that she and other South actresses faced a lack of respect in terms of securing garments from designers. The actress mentioned that there was a time when the ace designers used to look down upon South actors, asking ‘Who are you?.”

Speaking with Gulte, the Thei actress stated, “There were times when we south actors couldn't source garments from designers because they were like, 'Who are you? South actor? What south? We've come a long way from there, haven't we? This inclusivity is quite amazing, and we're now finally where we should be.” Interestingly, Samantha latest offering ‘Shaakuntalam’ has over 3,000 costumes for the actors, supporting cast, and junior artistes. All the costumes have been designed by Neeta Lulla. On a related note, the third trailer of the film was launched in Mumbai in the presence of the entire star cast. Samantha got uncomfortable with the harsh flashlights of the cameras. Her team requested photographers to turn off their cameras. ‘Shaakuntalam’ has been directed by Gunasekhar and is based on a popular play Abhignyana Shakuntalam by Kalidasa. While Samantha plays the Dev Mohan will be seen essaying the role of Dushyanta, the king of the Puru dynasty.

It also stars Mohan Babu, Jisshu Sengupta, Madhoo, Gautami, Aditi Balan, and Ananya Nagalla in supporting roles. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on 14 April 2023.
