Ghum Hai Kissikey Pyaar Mein Actress Mitaali Nag: 'The One Who Has Played Leads And Then Doing Supporting Roles Will Never Be Satisfied With The Screen Time'- EXCLUSIVE
Playing a lead and then a supporting role can be a tricky affair. Actress Mitaali Nag explains
Mitaali Nag, who started her career by playing the main lead in one of the most popular shows on hindi television 'Afsar Bitiya' ten years ago, is currently playing role of a mentally challenged Devyani Chavan in ongoing show 'Ghum Hai Kissikey Pyaar Mein'.
The actress in a candid conversation with SpotboyE.com went on sharing how actors feel unsatisfied in terms of screen space while playing a supporting character after playing the main lead heroine. Talking about her character of mentally challenged girl Devyani, Mitaali said, "Playing a mentally challenged character also takes a lot of toll on ur mental health. You have to think extra when you are playing a mentally challenged person. And I like to make my characters believable. For all the scenes which come to me I have to take extra care. I don't over do it as it looks like hamming. So, it takes a little bit of more homework than my normal characters." Mitaali also went on sharing how she feels unsatisfied with the screen time and what makes up for it, "Actresses who have done leads and then they are doing supporting roles would never be satisfied with the screen time that they get. As they are used to shoot from the first scene till the last scene which I have been used to doing. But yes this is the phase and I am happy with the way the character is going. So for me now it's not about screen time. I think there can be a lot more explored by Devyani as a character. What I am happy about is all the scenes that I am part of are centered around me. So when I perform those scenes, back of my mind I know that I am the heroine of that scene. I am the lead of the scene and that definitely makes up for the lesser amount of screen time that I am getting as a supporting character in the show."
Completing ten years in the industry, Mitaali calls it a mix of lows and highs, "A decade in the industry has been very exciting. There have been lows, highs. I started really great then I took a deliberate break because I got married and then had a baby. But God has been kind and blessed with all the characters that I got to play. I think the audience expects more from me with every character that I play because they know I am capable of doing it. Whenever casting directors call me they always say we want a performer for this role. So, it gives me a big high when I get this type of hidden compliments. Ten years have been really great and I am looking forward to the next ten years."
