Pooja Bedi On Karan Oberoi: “It’s Distressful That Any Woman Can Make Such Claims Without Real Evidence”
Actress Pooja Bedi is in acute agony as Karan Oberoi who is in police custody is her best friend. Last night, she went across to meet him. Obviously, she came back home very disturbed. Soon, she went on her Twitter page and started tweeting. But before that, she spoke exclusively to us and said, “I’m so upset that pro women laws can subject a decent innocent man to so much of trauma. I’ve been visiting him every day. He’s in shock. And it’s deeply distressful that any woman can just walk into a police station without any real evidence and make such claims and subject a man. His reputation and family through so much grief, embarrassment and loss.”

She added, “Even worse is that as friends who know the inside story aren’t allowed to give out details of a case that is totally in his favour because it’s not fair to disclose anything related to the "victim" case. Who is the victim in a false case? The one who files a complaint or the innocent man who suffers it? THERE. HAVE TO BE TOUGH CONSEQUENCES if a woman files a FALSE Case against a man. Only then will the rising number of false cases stop in its track.”

For those who’ve come in late, Karan Oberoi has been accused of raping and extorting money from an astrologist. The Oshiwara police registered an FIR against the actor-singer under Section 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR states that the lady met him via a dating app in October 2016 and after they became close friends, she met him at his Andheri residence. It’s during one such meetings at his house, that the actor gave her coconut water and soon after drinking it, she started feeling dizzy. It was then that the accused raped her and recorded the act on his phone. On the morning of May 6, Karan was produced in Andheri Court and he has been taken into police custody till May 9.
