You know him as Sanju from Shaka Laka Boom Boom. Now, Kinshuk Vaidya has grown into a fine and handsome gentleman. His stint as Aryan in Kavita Barjatya’s Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka, made him a telly heartthrob. In fact, such was the chemistry with his co-star Sanchi (Shivya Pathania) that fans began calling them ArChi. SpotboyE.com met the actor in his Malad home yesterday afternoon for a candid chat.

Excerpts:

From being a child actor to a Barjatya hero, how has the journey been?
It has been a wonderful journey. I can’t express the feeling when somebody comes up to me and says – I have grown up watching you, you have been an important part of my childhood. And speaking about being a Barjatya hero, what could have been better than this? It was a different show than what you usually get to see. It had a positive approach to life and about family unity.

Did you think that the show would get over so soon?
To be frank, the show got a positive response from the audience. People have loved Aryan and Sanchi. Our characters have given what you call #CoupleGoals. Fans make romantic memes. But socha nahin tha that the show will come to an end so soon. However, jo hota hai ache ke liye hota hai. Sometimes things are not in your hands. It’s part of life, it’s part of TV.

How was Shivya as a co-star?
Shivya has been an amazing co-star since day 1 and our bond has only grown stronger with time. She is a chatter box and I am the quiet guy.

How did the ice break between you two?

It broke when Kaushik Dada (director and producer) started discussing our characters. We began talking about each other’s character in the show and our understanding grew.

Shivya is senior to you in experience. Was there any discomfort about this between you two?
Actually, she had this thought about me. But she never expressed. Just recently she confessed...when we were giving our look tests, she didn’t recognise that I was from Shaka Laka. When the casting director introduced me, Shivya just looked the other side and said ‘I shouldn’t show him that I have grown up watching his show’. She had done Humsafars and it was a beautiful show. I had seen a few episodes. If seniority comes in mind, your works get affected. So, there was no such seniority complex.

Rumours have it that you both are dating...

Ya, there are lot of rumours going like that. We have been amazing friends and amazing partners for so long. So, what’s wrong in being together? That’s personal life. Let’s see what happens.

That doesn’t answer my question...
Yes, I am dating and fans will be very happy.

What’s the best thing about being with Shivya?
I had always heard about opposites attract. In the show, Aryan and Sanchi had quite similar tastes. Even in real life, we think alike. I had come up with this caption – Opposites attract alike fews. Opposites attract but when you are alike aap usme ghul mil jaat ho...ek ho jaate ho. The best thing about Shivya is her energy. She is a livewire. She can do anything.

I like her eyes, the way she goofs up. She has a lot of foot in the mouth moments. She is always herself. Bina soche samjhe kahin bhi kuch bhi bol deti hai. She is Shivya, she can pass off with things like that. She is the craziest person I have ever met.

How was the overall experience of doing a show for the Barjatyas?
The best part was, it had a homely feeling. Even if anyone gets angry the wildest reaction would be ‘S*** yaar!’ And that’s it. No one would ever raise their voice. We react so much with our personal problems, but on the set everybody kept their calm. Even in terms of acting, I have learnt a lot.

How was it working with Kavita Barjatya?
Coming from such a big family, she is so down to earth and soft spoken. She used to keep a check even on the smallest details like a lace of a sari. Such was the dedication. The grandeur of the show was all run through her. She sat on the script, the dialogue, costumes, makeup and every minute detail. She is an amazing person.

Grandeur or good content – what would you opt for?
Most important are the people I am working with. Once the people are nice, content will be good and the grandeur will follow. Everything works hand-in-hand.

What’s next after Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka?

I am in talks for a few television projects. Nothing is finalised yet. Let’s see.

Being a Barjatya hero, will you be comfortable playing a negative role?
Yes, why not. Frankly, there’s nothing like a ‘negative role’, it’s more of an anti-hero because from the negative lead’s perspective, his point of view is positive. If I have to do a negative role, I need to understand the character and that would be a positive role for me. I would love to play roles like that of SRK in Baazigar, Don or Darr.

Will you consider doing web series?
I would love to be a part of one. You get to play with creativity -- there is not much creative interference. Plus there is no censorship involved.

Are you comfortable with intimate scenes?
When it comes to kissing on screen, I believe it’s not needed to express love. The most beautiful way to showcase love is through eyes. Consider Aryan- Sanchi for instance; they never kissed. They hugged and kissed on each other’s forehead. But you could still see and feel the love.
