After a Tik Tok user, Feroza Aziz’s video, where she spoke about ethnic genocide in China in the garb of giving an eyelash tutorial went viral; the app platform pulled down her video and also suspended her account. This resulted in the user being infuriated and taking to her Twitter handle asking the app authorities for this sudden strict action against her account. After repetitive tweets and backlash from netizens, the video-sharing app rendered their apology and also reactivated her account

After Suspending Feroza Aziz's Account For DIY Eyelash-China Ethnic Genocide Video, Tik Tok Renders An Apology
Video-sharing app Tik Tok had to render an apology to one of its users, for mistakenly pulling off her video and further suspending her account as well. Feroza Aziz, a seventeen-year-old resident of USA, a Muslim girl just shot to fame with her latest video that spoke about a DIY hack to get long lashes, but few seconds into the video, Feroza starts shedding light on the cruel treatment given to the Muslims in China. Divided into three parts, the user spoke about Muslims in Xinjiang camp being apparently forced to eat pork and drink to finally get them converted into another religion.

Once the video went wildly viral, the app suspended her account. In a series of her tweets, she asked the Video-sharing app, for this drastic step and also stood firm on her opinion. Her tweet read, “I am blocked from posting on tik tok for a month. This won’t silence me.”  Updating her followers on the same, she mentioned in her Tweet about approaching them, “Update: I have reached out to tik tok yesterday morning and still haven't gotten a response. Followed by that came one more tweet slamming the country, “UPDATE: TIK TOK HAS TAKEN DOWN MY VIDEO SPREADING AWARENESS ON THE UYGHUR GENOCIDE. THIS IS PROOF THAT CHINA IS USING TIK TOK TO NOT LET THE TRUTH BE SET FREE. CHINA IS SCARED. @realDonaldTrump is there any way we can discuss?”


And then a came a Tweet confirming about Feroza Aziz’saccount back in action, “UPDATE: my tik tok is back up...very suspicious”


Post which came an apology from the video-sharing app, on November 25, that read, “There has been significant interest and confusion regarding a user's TikTok accounts and her viral video talking about the Uyghur community in China. In this post, we want to clarify the timeline of events, apologize for an error, and explain more about our moderation philosophy and the next steps our team will be taking in our continued commitment to our community."

Erin Han, head of Safety, TikTok US, who issued this apology, termed this suspension of the account as human error, “Due to a human moderation error, the viral video from November 23 was removed. It's important to clarify that nothing in our Community Guidelines precludes content such as this video, and it should not have been removed. The video went live again on the platform after a senior member of our moderation team identified the error and reinstated it immediately.”
