FIR Filed Against Ranveer Singh In Bengaluru for Mimicking Sacred Daiva Scene From Kantara At IFFI Goa

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has become the subject of legal trouble after an FIR was registered against him in Bengaluru for mimicking a sacred sequence from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28, 2025. The complaint was filed at High Grounds Police Station by advocate Prashanth Methal, who invoked Sections 196, 299, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the FIR.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred during the IFFI closing ceremony when Ranveer, while praising the film and its lead, recreated the iconic Daiva scene—a culturally and religiously significant part of the narrative involving the Goddess Chavundi. The complainant said he saw a video of the performance on Instagram on December 2, 2025, which was shared by an account named Brief Chaat. Methal alleged that the actor imitated traditional expressions linked to the Panjurli and Guliga Daiva in what he described as “crude, comical, and derogatory” fashion, and even called the deity a “female ghost,” actions he claims deeply offended devotees.

Chavundi Daiva is regarded as a guardian deity symbolising divine feminine energy in coastal Karnataka and holds deep spiritual importance for followers. The complaint asserts that Ranveer’s mimicry amounted to a serious misrepresentation that hurt religious sentiments and inflicted “grave mental agony” on the community. It further alleges the act was intentional, designed to outrage religious feelings and sow discord.

The case has been referred to the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bengaluru, with the next hearing scheduled for April 8. Previously, Ranveer had offered a public apology, saying it was never his intention to hurt anyone and that his comments were meant to celebrate the performance and craftsmanship behind the original scene.
