Karan Johar Announces Week-Long Digital Detox, Says ‘May the Universe Give Me The Strength To Stay Away’
Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced that he will be taking a digital detox, stepping away from social media for a full week. The announcement came through his Instagram Stories, where Johar shared that he intends to unplug from online activity, including scrolling, messaging, and posting. In his brief note, he wrote, “Digital Detox for a week! No doom scrolling! No DMs! No posts! May the universe give me the strength to stay away!!!!”
The break appears to be intentional, giving the director-producer time away from the constant buzz of social platforms. Just before declaring the detox, Johar’s last social media post featured a video still of Alia Bhatt, where he wished everyone a Happy Republic Day.
In the days leading up to this decision, Johar had been active online celebrating recent successes in Bollywood. He took to his account to acknowledge the strong box office performance of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar and Sunny Deol’s Border 2, suggesting that these results show that audiences still connect with films that resonate emotionally.
In his reflections, Johar wrote that the back-to-back successes of these films prove that “Bollywood (yes, incorrect terminology, but here to stay) is back.” He added, “Naysayers can fly a kite. All Dhurandhars will cross borders of excellence when the films strike emotional chords with a paying audience.”
The announcement coincided with other professional appearances, such as Johar hosting a grand session celebrating Rani Mukerji’s 30 years in Bollywood, organised by Yash Raj Films.
During this week away, Johar’s fans can expect a complete pause in his social media interactions and content, as he focuses on stepping back from the digital landscape.
