Vicky Kaushal-starrer Uri started off on a promising note at the box office as it did a business of Rs 8-8.25 crore, whereas Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna-starrer The Accidental Prime Minister had a very lukewarm response on its opening day with Rs 3.25-3.50 crore business. Now, the second day numbers are here and they sort of give clarity on who’s racing ahead and who’s lagging behind.
According to Box Office India, Uri has shown good progress with business of around Rs 11.75-12 crore nett on day two which takes its total 2-day business to Rs 20 crore nett whereas The Accidental Prime Minister has hardly shown any growth with Rs 4 crore business on Saturday; that takes its 2-day collections to Rs 7 crore nett. The cumulative business of both the movies stands at Rs 27 crore. The picture is quite clear, with Vicky Kaushal leading the box office race this week.
Incidentally, both the movies can be termed as BJP propagandas in some way or the other. The real fact here is the movie which was in-your-face (The Accidental Prime Minister) has lagged quite behind than the subtle and masked one (Uri).
SpotboyE editor Vickey Lalwani rated Uri with 3.5 stars and in his review wrote, “Nothing to tell you about the story of something that is in this country's history, but hats off to Aditya Dhar's (director) detailing and shot-taking. The celluloid version of the Uri surgical strike of September 2016 takes your breath away in many frames. Uri is passionate film-making- so well-etched out, deets in place, no compromise on using tough locations.”
While rating The Accidental Prime Minister 2.5 stars, he wrote, “It first struck me when I was reminded: How often journalists blame the desk if the celeb they have written about, calls them up and says he/she is not happy with the story they have published on him/her? I am a journalist and I know. I have goofed it up in my 18 years of journalism and passed the buck. Journalists often provide incomplete information. This is perhaps exactly what journalist Sanjaya Baru did when Dr Manmohan Singh pointed out his issues with one of his earlier stories on him.”
The Sunday business may show a similar pattern, yet let’s wait to see how far the movies grow in terms of numbers.
