Hrithik Roshan Accused Of Flouting Rules & Buying Burial Land

Hrithik Roshan and his father, Rakesh Roshan, have suddenly come under scrutiny of law, after an RTI was filed against them having bought a reserved government land in Khandala. The RTI was filed by former Congress president of Khandala area, Kiran Gaikwad, who claims that a sizeable portion of the property bought by the Roshans' last year falls under government jurisdiction.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the father-son duo had bought over 15,000 sq mt of land in Khandala last December under their company Sunder Bhawar Holiday Homes Pvt Ltdn for around Rs 30 Crore. However, the RTI claims that one of the plots – survey number 181B, Maval Taluka, measuring 504 sq mt – belonged to the state government, while another plot, survey number 182, was marked for a burial ground.

Gaikwad says, “Both the land parcels are located within the Roshans’ plot. I accessed all documents pertaining to the plots in and around the one recently bought by Sunder Bhawar Holiday Homes, and was stunned to find that two government plots have been usurped by the company while demarcating and getting a boundary wall sanctioned around their area.”

On the other hand, Shakir Shaikh, in-charge of the project on the site, says that they hadn’t indulged in any illegalities on the project. “We completed the legal formalities and started building the compound wall. There has been no violation. If government plots were merged with ours, why didn’t the authority claim it? There was a mention of open space reservation but it belongs to our client,” he revealed. He said this in respect to the fact that the documents revealed the Roshans bought the plot on December 19, 2016 and the proposal to construct a compound wall was approved by the Lonavala Municipal Council on February 9 this year. A no-objection certificate was granted by the MSRDC on April 3, 2017. If the property was indeed on objectionable land, then why did they give the no objection certificate?

Even though it seems that the Roshans have gone by the book of law in every aspect, Gaikwad is set to take the matter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Gaikwad further added that he has approached the Lonavala Municipal Council to take back the two plots from the Roshans. The Congressman also claims that recently a balwadi and a couple of other shrines that stood on the government plot were demolished by the Roshans.

Hrithik and Rakesh haven't yet opened up on the matter. Let's wait and watch what they have to say.
