Deepika Padukone had almost been finalised for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next which is based on Padmavati (Buzz: Deepika to star in Bhansali’s next, Apr 5). The film revolves around Alauddin Khilji who was so besotted by Padmavati that he laid siege to Chittor fort, demanding that King Ratan Singh give up his wife.

Coming back to the casting. One cannot ignore the recent strong buzz around that Priyanka Chopra is a strong contender to play the Queen of Mewar.

Deepika is considered the maverick filmmaker’s current muse – the two have had two successful outings in Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani. As for Priyanka, she had a cameo in Ram-Leela and won accolades for her Kashibai act in the 2015 period drama.
