It’s Sridevi’s 55th birth anniversary today and on the occasion, we bring to you an excerpt from our exclusive chat with Kamal Haasan wherein he spoke about his co-star of 27 films.
It’s well-known that Haasan and Sridevi shared a strong bond. Thus, goes without saying, the megastar suffered a major setback when the actress passed away. “It was very tragic. For me, I met Sridevi when she was younger than Janhvi. I am a pupil from the same institution as her – K Balachander. I was her bully and trainer. It was a strange relationship. People would think of us as collegemates but she called me ‘Sir’. I was like those part-time lecturers who take classes for her. We have done 27 films together. That’s a lifetime.”
Ask him if he is in touch with Janhvi Kapoor or has watched Dhadak and he says, “I am not in touch with Janhvi but met her soon after her mother died. I owed her a hug. Boney (Kapoor) sir invited me to come and see the film but I couldn’t because of my party work. I am yet to see Dhadak but I wish her - All the Best.
With so many films together, which film has been the most memorable? Pat comes the reply, “Sadma. We got to do it twice, once in Tamil and once in Hindi, which was a rare opportunity.”
A Still From Sadma
A while ago, we brought you a video wherein Sridevi is seen celebrating her 54th birthday with actresses including Rani Mukerji, Aishwarya Rai, Rekha and Shabana Azmi. In another video that is doing the rounds of social media, we see Boney Kapoor lovingly kissing Sridevi on her cheeks.
