Movie Review: Hollywood Flick Trolls Is A Wonderful And Colourful Ride

3.5 Stars.jpg

Trolls is an animated film with one of the biggest voice cast, and comes from the House of Pixar. The trailer promised a colourful, entertaining ride, but does the film hold true to what it promised? SpotboyE.com finds out.

The film introduces the audience to two factions, Trolls and the Bergen. The Bergens get a taste of the happiness that the Trolls experience when they hold an annual celebration and each one eats a troll. However, during one such celebration, the trolls escape with the help of their king, King Peppy (Jeffrey Tambohr) and the chef of the Bergens (Christine Baranski) is banished by the Bergen king.

It is twenty years later that the King’s daughter, Princess Poppy (Anna Kenderick) decides to hold a celebration marking the day they all escaped - and that’s the time that all hell breaks loose. A number of trolls are once again captured by the Bergens and the Princess makes a rag-tag team to save the trolls - and the day.

Trolls is a fun, colourful film that caters to all audience. The kids will love the color, zest and the action and even for the adults, this will be an interesting, laid-back viewing with the entire family.

The script is old territory and the screenplay is par for the course, it does lag for a moment in the middle but all’s well that ends well. There are plenty of ‘ooh’ and ‘aaah’ moments, especially the ones where the trolls use their hair. Growing up, everyone had these troll dolls and what people liked the most were those strong, colourful hair that these dolls had.

The animation is top-class and adds more to the story, but what stands out is the music. Trolls is touted as a musical-animation, so the characters do break into a song-and-dance at every given opportunity and that’s cute. This is a novel idea, marrying the soul of a musical with the colour and the verve of an animation film and it does work this time. In fact, the soundtrack of the film will remain with the audience long, long after the credits have rolled.
