“I’m Not Promoting Tobacco,” Says Ajay Devgn After A Fan Urges Him To Stop Endorsing It
Ajay Devgn has often invited the wrath of trolls for endorsing a tobacco brand. Recently, one of his fans, Nanakram who’s suffering from cancer made a public appeal to the actor to stop promoting tobacco.

The PTI report stated, “The patient's family said that he was a fan of Ajay Devgn and used the same product which the actor advertises for, but now he realises that tobacco has had an adverse effect on his life. Nearly 1000 pamphlets addressed to Mr Devgn, in which Nanakram asks the actor about how much he or his family chew tobacco, have been circulated and pasted on the walls in Sanganer, Jagatpura and nearby areas of the city. In the pamphlet, Nanakram said that advertisements of things like liquor, cigarette and tobacco were harmful and that actors should not promote these things. A father of two children, Nanakram, who used to run a tea-stall earlier, cannot speak and runs the family by selling milk at home in Sanganer town of Jaipur.”

Now, the actor has reacted on his request. During promotions of De De Pyaar De, Ajay said, "I have always maintained in my contracts that I am not promoting tobacco. Whatever the ads are, they are of ilaaichi (cardamom) and my contract says it will be non-tobacco. So if the same company is selling something else, I don't know what to do."

Citing an example, the star added, "In my latest film, De De Pyaar De, I'm playing a regular man who does not smoke. But if I'm playing a Malik bhai in a film like Company, how will it be without smoking? Without taking any names, we were playing somebody (real) who smoked. So it would have been wrong to not show it as it would not be true to the role."

Ajay Devgn’s forthcoming film De De Pyaar De is helmed by Akiv Ali and stars Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh. It is slated to release on May 17. Apart from this film, the actor will be seen in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, RRR and Syed Abdul Rahim biopic.
