Panipat Lands In Trouble; Bajirao’s Descendant Objects To Kriti Sanon's Dialogue, Says It 'Defames Peshwa'

Even before Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt starrer Panipat: The Great Betrayal hit the screens on December 6, it has already landed in a controversy. Helmed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film is based on the Third Battle of Panipat. Sanjay Dutt will play the main antagonist, Ahmad Shah Abdali, while Mohnish Bahl will portray Nana Saheb Peshwa’s character. Apart from these, Padmini Kolhapure will be seen as Gopika Bai, Zeenat Aman as Sakina Begum among others. The trailer of the film dropped a few days back

The latest objection about a particular dialogue has been raised by Peshwa Bajirao’s descendant, Shadab Ali. Ali says he will approach the court as Kriti’s dialogue in Panipat defames Mastani as well as the Peshwa. As seen in the trailer, Kriti, who portrays the role of Parvatibai, wife of Sadashiv Rao, nephew of Bajirao, played by Arjun Kapoor, says, “Maine suna hai Peshwa jab akele muhim par jaate hain to ek Mastani ke saath laut te hain.” Watch on 0:41 (ALSO READ: Panipat’s Costume Designer Neeta Lulla On Similarities With Bajirao Mastani: ‘Can’t Change History To Make Costumes Look Different’)

Talking about the same Shadab Ali, who now lives in Bhopal spoke about the same to Firstpost and said, “The particular dialogue in the movie — ‘whenever Peshwa returns from the battleground, he brings one Mastani’ — is in bad taste and highly objectionable. The way it has been used presents a bad picture of not only Mastani Sahiba but also of the Peshwa to our audience and to young minds unaware of Maratha history. Mastani Bai was the bonafide wife of Peshwa Baji Rao and not just another woman.”

He further told the leading portal that after seeing that portion in the trailer of the movie, he has sent notices to the producers and the director to remove that portion or make necessary changes. If they don’t respond, he’ll move to the court against them.

Helmed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, Panipat: The Great Betrayal is slated to release on December 6, setting up a clash with Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday starrer Pati, Patni Aur Woh at the box-office.
